Hi there! I’m Cheryn Tan. I was born and raised in Kuala Terengganu where I attended primary and secondary school. I then left for Cyberjaya where I pursued a Bachelor in Film and Animation at Multimedia University. I graduated in 2006 and it’s been a whirlwind since! Before I go into detail what I’ve been working on the past years, I should probably walk you down memory lane first?
I’ve loved fashion from a young age. I’d fill tons and tons of sketch books with different fashion designs, just filling up my time with scribbling down on paper different combinations and fashion looks. I didn’t think it was quite possible to pursue my dreams of being a fashion designer. Based on society norms, fashion isn’t a career, it isn’t the a proper feasible ambition to have.
Even after graduating, after starting WebWeaver Learning Centre and teaching all things graphic and website design, I still felt that fashion design itch! It was an itch I couldn’t possibly ignore any further.
I started an online boutique with my business partner (now also a physical one at Pop by Jaya One) called I Can’t Sew. The focus was on trendy, quality and affordable fashion but a reoccurring theme was that sizes rarely even go up to XL.
There were many different paths ventured. From starting an online accessories shop during university, running WebWeaver Learning Centre upon graduating (which I still do =p), being a photography trainer for Sony right up to building the established I Can’t Sew boutique with my cousin. I finally decided that no better day than today. It’s time to pursue that childhood dream!
As the world seemed unfairly petite oriented, I decided to take the plunge and start my own plus size apparel brand – Plusify Fashion. I plan to stick around, brave the entrepreneurial storm and make fashionable XL to 6XL plus size apparel more accessible in Malaysia.
I guess you could say I’m in it for the long haul. There has been ups and downs but I’m determined to (as Tim Gunn from Project Runway would say) make it work! Attached to WebWeaver Learning Centre is now my private Plusify Fashion boutique and I have an online store at www.plusify.my Do drop by!
To help kick off my lil’ plus size boutique, despite it being way out of my comfort zone, I modelled most of the clothing. It was really hard and awkward at first, but I’m getting the hang of it a lil’ day by day. I’ve decided to start my own blog now to write about all things plus size fashion and also maybe chart my Plusify lifestyle journey. Oh, and not forgetting my future endeavours with the #KLYouTubers! It’s amazing what you can do with likeminded people.
I can’t help it, I love fashion. I love it’s ability to change the world, how it can be confidence building and give people that added beat in their step! It’s been 2 years since the launch of Plusify Fashion and I hope you’ll be part of my journey. Do check back now and again to see what I’ve been up to. I am always open to potential collaborations, blogging and business opportunities as well as interested investors so don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank for reading my profile. I sign off with this little fun personal jingle (or jiggle! =p).
I am not just curvy, I’m hug size.
I am not just short, I’m fun size!
Much love, Cheryn Tan
